Mold forming in your mattress is commonplace. If you have spilled liquid on your mattress, the excess moisture that has permeated made your mattress an ideal breeding ground for molds. This type of fungus tends to grow in damp and humid places.

Even if you take good care of your bed, there are still instances when molds grow in it. If the humidity in your room is high it can easily lead to molds formation not only in your mattress but in the rest of your furniture.

Since most molds are poisonous, they do not make up the best companions when we go to sleep. Inhaling them can also lead to allergy attack.

If your mattress is moldy, should you throw it away immediately?

If you have invested in a mattress that costs more than a thousand bucks, it will be difficult to just throw it away. Good mattresses today do not come cheap.

Throwing it away is not the only solution. First, you should inspect your bed. Find out if the molds have already completely spread in your mattress. If the whole mattress is not yet affected, cleaning it can still save the mattress. The best way to get rid of molds is to use white vinegar. It dissolves this type of fungus quickly.

Prepare two cups of white vinegar and one cup of water. Mix them together. Put the vinegar solution in a spray bottle. Now spray the solution on all sides of the bed, especially the moldy areas. Let the solution work on your mattress for at least on hour. Traces of molds should be gone after an hour or so.

Soak clean towel in water. Wring out the excess moisture. Wipe the damp towel on the surface of the mattress to get rid of the vinegar solution. Sprinkle loose baking soda on all sides of the mattress.

Baking soda actually helps reduce bad mattress odor. In addition to that, it helps clean out the mattress and prevent molds from developing. Baking soda can also absorb excess moisture in your furniture. Leave this cleaning ingredient on the surface of the mattress. After an hour, vacuum your bed.

Place your bed in an airy room to dry completely. Molds will not develop if the room is airy and sunny.

Instead of throwing your mattress out, clean it first. If this does not work, that is the only time you should consider getting a new mattress.
