Home bar stools are quickly becoming one of the most popular pieces of furniture in the modern home. They are perfect for dressing up a kitchen or dressing one down. They come in a variety of materials, shapes, and sizes and you can often get them for very cheap with a huge discount. Most people mistakenly assume that because of their relative size they can be more expensive, but this isn't necessarily the case. You have to keep your eyes peeled, and you'll surely be able to find the type that you want.

If you're after a more contemporary look, I would recommend you stay away from the backless counter types. These are the kinds that have been around forever and give off a more traditional feel. Of course, if you get a leather one that can swivel, then you're just inches away from having a barber chair. On the other hand, for the most modern type you can get, think about getting an extra tall stool. These are ones that are over 30 inches, usually 36 inches. This is as opposed to those that are around 24 inches.

For the material, think about how the color will match the rest of your kitchen. If you want it to match, I suggest thinking about how your cabinets look. It's better to match your cabinets than it is your kitchen counter. Rather, try to offset the breakfast counters with a complimentary color. If your idea is to set these up in the living room, think how they will fit in with the other furniture. For example, only get leather if you have other leather pieces. Wooden chairs go with pretty much everything, so if you're ever in doubt, think about getting that type. As for wicker, get a nice set of upholstered pieces and put them outdoors in the patio. This is a great use for the material.

As for those that are constantly on the move, you have no choice but to check out the folding bar stools. These are great because of how lightweight they are, so they're really portable. Whatever you do, though, don't set them up in the kitchen or in any other part of your house unless you absolutely need more seats. It's just not a very classy thing to do.
