Craigslist is a website that offers just about anything under the sun. People post job advertisements and products there. If you are looking for a pre-loved mattress to cut back on cost, this is the “place” to go.

But of course, you will have to worry about how you can clean the mattress. You never know what happened to that mattress before you had it in your hands. Here are a couple of cleaning tips for you:

If it is a spring, innerspring, coil spring mattress
Unlike other mattresses, this is a lot less sensitive as you practically use just about any cleaning material. I don't suggest the use of bleach or similar cleaning agents though for any type of mattress.

For this one, you can start by cleaning it in a nice spacious area. Have a basinful of water ready and a spray bottle with clean water inside. Also get a sponge, vacuum cleaner, vinegar and baking soda.

Add vinegar to the basinful of water. About half a cup will suffice. Get the sponge and dip it in the vinegar solution. Sponge bathe both sides of your mattress. Make sure you wring out some of the water from the sponge so you will not soak your mattress through. Leave the solution there for about an hour so the vinegar can disinfect the mattress and get rid of stains.

After an hour, spray it with clean water using the spray bottle. Sprinkle dry baking soda on both sides of the mattress to remove vinegar smell. Leave it there for an hour or so. After that, vacuum it and place it in a nice sunny place to dry completely.

If it is a memory foam mattress
Remember that memory foams are a bit sensitive so they should not be subjected to a harsh cleaning method. You can mix baking soda, vinegar and water together and place it in a spray bottle. Spray both sides of the mattress. Leave it there overnight until it dissolves any stains.

The next day, vacuum the mattress and leave it in a nice shaded outdoors with indirect sunlight to dry completely.

If it is a latex mattress
Actually, this mattress requires little cleaning as it has the innate ability to hamper development of bacteria, dust mites, molds and mildew. Just sprinkle baking soda on top of it to help get rid of stains and leave it overnight. In the morning, vacuum it completely.
